Part of a new community master planned by Sorg Architects in Bradenton, FL, this new 4 story senior housing facility features 30, one-bedroom apartment units, a common room, library, computer room, and a fitness center. The building wraps an east facing courtyard featuring a garden with indigenous plants and palm trees. Open balcony passageways surround the courtyard and provide access to the units. The west facade is punctuated by balconies that are supported by an open beam structure, which, in turn, supports the railings and sun screens. The balconies provide spectacular views across a man-made lake completed during an earlier phase of the project and deep overhangs provide shelter from the elements. Angled bay windows open to other units providing ample light and water views. Designed to fit into its tropical context and built within a tight budget, the building features brightly colored stucco on block and precast, hollow core plank construction.
