City of the Future
Washington, DC
Sorg Architects was one of four local firms invited to participate and one of eight teams competing in the City of the Future design and engineering challenge in Washington, DC. The City of the Future competition asked participating designers to imagine Washington in the year 2108 by responding to issues such as infrastructure, transportation, demographics, commerce and industry, housing, culture, technology and communication, security and sustainable design. Awards were presented by Washington, DC Mayor, Adrian Fenty on January 15th at Union Station, after teams were given only one week to develop schemes and three hours to assemble 7-foot, three-dimensional models on site at Union Station. Sorg's award-winning scheme for the City of the Future competition imagined the "City of Ideas":
Washington embodies the idea that is America. In 2108, we see a city that preserves and enhances its historical identity by becoming a manifest City of Ideas. We envision it as an incubator and platform for international exchange and education. This city of diplomacy revolutionizes the safeguarding of our world.
