Sorg's design for the new Cresthaven Elementary School, at 74,000 square feet, is solidly based in green building principles and technology. Instead of allowing the steeply sloping site to be a barrier, the new building undulates along the edge of the slope, allowing for natural lighting throughout as well as for an expanded area dedicated to outdoor circulation, student pick-up and drop-off that is visible from the academic offices for security. Sorg's careful consideration of the sitting of the school building, not only maximizes the efficiency of the site, but also provides the students with an improved learning environment in a natural setting and maximizes sustainable design goals for the project.
