For the District of Columbia Department of Parks and Recreation, Sorg is completing a two-part project at Camp Riverview, the department’s 217 acre overnight summer recreational facility in Scotland, MD, located at the confluence of the Potomac River and the Chesapeake Bay. Sorg is preparing a master plan for the property, indicating development opportunities over a ten-year period that include the introduction of corporate conference and family retreat facilities as well as improvements to the existing camp facilities that serve the crucial purpose of giving the District’s underserved urban youth a summer respite and a place where nature and environmental education are the focus. As the first piece to be constructed, Sorg is designing a new dining hall that combines dining and recreation facilities in a sustainably designed modern space that opens onto the river front.
