United States Embassy Compound
Riga, Latvia The New Embassy Compound is located on a 10 acre site southwest of the center of Riga, Latvia. The campus, bounded by groves of indigenous birch trees, residential streets and the City Music School, consists of a New Embassy Office Building, Compound Access Control buildings and hardline perimeter wall, Marine Security Guard Quarters, GSO Support Annex and Utility Building. The New Embassy Office Building consists of two rectangular wings connected by a two story gallery that serves as representational space for ceremonies and exhibitions. The east wing houses the public functions of the embassy building, including the consular section, while the west wing houses CAA functions. Administrative offices are housed on the upper floors. Large expanses of glazing, with interior light shelves, punctuate the contrasting warm and cool tone limestone exterior cladding of the building. Interior finishes include limestone floor and base with perforated wood paneling on the walls and wood slatted paneling on the ceiling. The interior and exterior finishes are continued and referenced throughout each building on the campus. Sustainability is an important focus in the design of the New Embassy Compound in Riga, Latvia.
